Chapter Philanthropy

Our chapter runs one huge fundraiser in the fall called Mx. Whitman. Mx. Whitman is a mock beauty pageant that incorporates the entire campus to raise money for an organization that is actively involved in working with the Walla Walla community.  Roughly 8 seniors, a mix of greek and independent contestants, compete to see who can raise the most money and become crowned the title of Mx. Whitman. By having many different representatives, the entire campus gets involved in fundraising activities (i.e. trivia nights, silent auctions, sports tournaments and more), which each participant creates with the help of Kappas. Mx. Whitman unifies the entire Whitman campus around a cause to support an organization that we find especially impactful and meaningful. Links to recent organizations we have partnered with can be found below.

In addition to Mx. Whitman, our chapter holds “Kappa Saturdays” at the local library throughout the year. These are lower key events in which our members volunteer at the library on Saturdays by reading or playing games with the kids, which each Saturday being centered around a certain theme. These Saturdays build up to a larger event in the spring called Dr. Seuss Day. In 2018, 400 children attended to participate in Dr. Seuss themed activities. These include a skit of The Cat in the Hat performed by Kappas, read alouds, drawing and coloring activities and more. At the end of the day, every child leaves with a brand new book donated by Kappa.
